February 9, 2016. ILIGAN CITY—A party-list candidate, Partidong Manggagawa (PM), supported by the presence of over a hundred people in front of the Iligan Post Office, celebrated the official opening of the national campaign declared by the Commission on Election (COMELEC). Along with the other candidates on motorcades who also came across the city presenting various styles on catching the attention of the surrounding audiences, the group also staged March for Dignified Life and Work around the city.
Convened to highlight the needs inclusive to the grassroots and different sectors, the MindanaOne, as direct alliance of the party-list, reinforced on introducing the PM’s nominees including Rene Magtubo, Jun Gonzaga, Gerry Rivera, Atty. Bayani Diwa and Judy Chan-Miranda. All of which carry four main platforms that reflect the party-list’s definition: low cost, enough wage, regular jobs, and appropriate public service, where these problems are still circulating the system affecting not only the tri-people of Mindanao, but the Filipinos as a whole.
According to Mark Mandar, MindanaOne National Vice Chair for Mindanao Migrants’ Descendants – “the electoral process is an integral part of our overall struggle for the realization of peoples’ democratic rights and welfare. We in MindanaOne believe that this can be a venue to expose the rotten and exploitative political and economic system we have, oppose anti-people policies and programs and propose and mainstream our alternatives and proposals. So, we started the campaign for Partido Manggagawa Party List to win and at the same time for the Peoples’ Agenda.”
“How ironic to see that there had been lots of opportunities we went through elections, but as if there were no societal changes can be seen. That cycle must be ended. Thus, an alternative way of participating in the decision-making has been resolved—that is to bring the voice of these different sectors in the Congress through Partido Manggagawa (PM), “ said Jun Gonzaga, 2nd nominee of PM.
“We are glad to know that the MindanaOne supports us even through street parliamentary, that they saw our connection on the entities we wanted to address in the Congress too,” Jane Bernardo, PM-Iligan City.
